Governor Jorginho Mello swore in Paulo Bornhausen as the new secretary of Foreign Affairs and Strategic Projects, this Thursday (4). The ceremony, which brought together friends, family and politicians, took place at Casa d’Agronomica, in Florianópolis. The appointment was published in the Official State Gazette.

Jorginho Mello highlighted the history that Bornhausen has with international business prospecting work for Santa Catarina. “Paulinho is a prepared man and has a history of services provided to the state. I have no doubt that it is another great acquisition for our secretariat, which is made up of great leaders and professionals. We will certainly achieve great things for Santa Catarina and for the people who live here”, highlighted the governor.

The new secretary said that there are modern plans that he intends to put into practice. “It is a great joy to be part of this team, led by governor Jorginho Mello. We see that it is a government that has been doing its homework and our mission is to further improve the quality of what is done here in Santa Catarina. We will work hard to develop our regions, with bold projects, that contain things from this new world that is arriving, such as artificial intelligence. Let’s prepare Santa Catarina to beat Brazil, making it, as always, a prominent state.”

The Secretary of Foreign Affairs is from Blumenau, married and father of four children. He is the son of former senator and former governor Jorge Bornhausen and grandson of former Santa Catarina governor Irineu Bornhausen. He graduated in law from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) and specialized in tax law. He was secretary of Sustainable Economic Development in the Government of Santa Catarina, elected three times as federal deputy and once as state deputy.

In the Santa Catarina government, he served as secretary of Sustainable Economic Development from 2011 to 2014 – when he was on leave from his position as federal deputy. On that occasion, he actively participated in organizing BMW’s arrival in SC. Bornhausen is voluntary president of the advisory board of the InovAMFRI regional development project, carried out in the Foz do Rio Itajaí region.
